See this article in IEEE Spectrum about the evolution to full-HD telephone audio. It contains some background about the current wired and wireless network designs that have hampered the implementation of better voice quality of the kind that many of us have experienced when using Skype or Google Voice between computers and smart phones. The coming full-HD audio will be even better.
